EAR CANDLING / CONING HISTORY

AN EFFECTIVE NATURAL ANCIENT TRADITION WITH PAINLESS & PROFOUND RESULTS.  KEEP YOUR EARS HEALTHY.

Slightly around the era of 3000 years B.C. the people of Ancient Tibet, the Essenes, the Egyptians, the Chinese, the Mayans and the pre-columbian Americas and even the mythical city of Atlantis are cited as possible contributors to this mystical therapy, which was usually, reserved more for spiritual leaders and high-ranking officials, great warriors or others of high social class.  Ear Candling is still practised today in the United States, Australia, Canada, Japan, Germany and many more countries are picking up this cleansing technique as well in modern society.

The Native American Hopi Tribe reportedly taught the technique to visiting Europeans in pre-colonial times.  The Choctaw Indian Tribe of North America simply blew smoke of various herbs into the ear canal as medicinal application.

Anyway the practice of ear candling regardless of origin was virtually lost for many years as modern medicine introduced the use of antibiotics and syringing of the ears but since modern society has accepted the resurgence of alternative medical practices hence this practice is making a comeback in our modern society.

WHAT IS EAR CANDLING ALL ABOUT?

The ear candling treatment (also known as coning, candling or ear coning) is a relaxing and therapeutic method many people use to promote ear health or to treat ear discomforts.  This age-old time honoured “home remedy” works to relieve pain and discomfort and the warmth and smoke may assist the body’s natural process to excrete impacted or infected ear wax during the days after candling is performed.  It provides relief from various ear complaints by the application of therapeutic heat.

Ear candling is a very ancient method of alleviating upper respiratory and sinus problems, softening of cerumen (ear wax), relief of ear and sinus iritations, improves hearing, smell and taste, relief of catarrh,  gives improved mental clarity, relaxation, feeling of cleanliness and is excellent in the treatment of eye, nose and throat congestion / ailments.  It also helps eliminate migraine, headaches, ringing in the ears, swimmer’s ears, allergies tinnitus and otitis (tropical ear).

People who experience discomfort in their ears (frequent flyers, air stewards, pilots, mountaineers, etc.) when flying in an airplane or when at a high altitude find that ear candling can help regulate back their ear pressure.  Also beneficial for Scuba divers. Hearing loss due to impacted cerumen, sinus congestion, irritations in the ears or frontal para nasal sinuses, ear pain, itching, rhinitis and vertigo (dizziness). Detoxification of sinuses and stimulation of blood and lymph circulation.  It is also ideal for relaxation treatment for stress or anxiety related symptoms.

HOW IT WORKS

It works by removing cerumen (ear wax), past infections, bacteria, ear mites, pollen, parasites, worms and fungus creating a vacuum in the ear canal.  If the candles are properly  inserted / sealed the ear wax is gently pulled up the tube.

The healing properties of the ear candle have its foundation in two primary physical conditions.  Firstly, the slight under pressure (the chimney effect) inside the ear candle and the vibration of the rising air column serve to gently massage the ear drum and promote secretion in the frontal and Para nasal sinuses.  This has an immediate subjective effect of regulating ear pressure.  The whole process is invariably painless and conducive to a state of pure relaxation.  U sers often describe a soothing, light sensation in the ear/head area.  Secondly, the locally applied warmth stimulates vascularization, invigorates the immune system and reinforces the flow of lymph.  At the same time, important acupuncture points and reflex zones are stimulated.  By stimulating this warmth, ear candling affords the body an excellent stimulus to natural regeneration and correction of ear, nose and throat anomalies to healthy function in the body.

The first ear candles in history were made by the Ancient Egyptians.  Their method was to light hollow rushes (which represents our modern ear candle now) and insert them into the cavity of the ear to clean out the wax and other impurities but then they learned that if they dipped the rush into melted wax greater success was achieved. Hence our modern Ear Candles was born using this process.

Ear Candles are hollow candles made of 100% cotton fabric, pure beeswax and precious honey extracts.  The base of an Ear Candle is gently inserted a fraction of an inch into the outer ear canal and then the tip of the candle is lit.

The flame creates a vacuum, which can gently and naturally pull the wax, moisture and other residues out of the ear and into the Ear Candle.  Sometimes a facial massage is combined with the process to help clear the facial passages.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS ABOUT EAR CANDLING

Is the process painful?

There should be no pain incurred whatsoever.  In fact some people find the process to be so relaxing that they fall asleep during the candling session.  Some customers just liked the soothing, light sensation in their ear and head areas.

Why should I have my ears candled?

Ear Candling can be very useful anytime wax or moisture in the ear is a problem.

What kind of results can I expect?

Sharpening of mental functioning, vision, hearing, smell, taste and color perception.  Results vary from individual to individual.  Since our body’s composition is not the same, some people would experience greater problem with wax and moisture build-up in their ears than they realize.  Wax and moisture can also affect the functioning of the inner ear, which is critical to our sense of balance.

What are the reputed benefits?

Softening of cerumen (ear wax), relief of ear and sinus irritants, improving hearing, smell and taste, relief of catarrh (dry cough) etc..

How can I tell if my ears need to be candled?

1.  If you have a problem hearing over the phone.
2.  If you have trouble following the conversation when two or more people are talking at the same time.
3.  If you have experienced a gradual reduction in hearing sensitivity, this may be due in part to wax build-up.  Itching in the ears and

plugged ears are also symptoms that can often be relieved by ear candling.

4.  If people complain that your TV or Radio volume is too loud.
5.  If you miss some common sounds like the doorbell or the phone ringing.
6.  If you have trouble hearing hearing conversations in a noisy background.
7.  If you get confused where the sound comes from.

9.  If you have trouble understanding the speeches from women and children.
10.If people get annoyed because you misunderstand what they say.
11. If you misunderstand what others are saying and respond inappropriately.

How often should I have my ears candled?

You need to use your own judgment as to what feels normal in your ear once it is cleared out and how often your ears will benefit from being candled. Ideally if you do not have any problem with your ears then 2 times a year would be sufficient but if you do have a condition on your ears then please ask the advice of your therapist carrying our the ear candling session with you as to how often it should be treated.

Does Ear Candling cure any diseases?

No claims can be made so far for any cures on specific diseases.  Ear Candling is not a cure-all remedy.  It has been able to help many cases but not all ear problems are associated with the build-up of wax or moisture in the ears.  If need be, check with your General Practitioner for your suspected condition or before doing the Ear Candling session.  If you think there are more serious problems then visit your Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist.

What is the residue found in the Ear Candle after the process is completed?

The residue is a mixture of candle residue and ear residue.  The percentage of each varies from individual to individual and candle to candle.  Even the condition of the room can effect how much residue is found in the candle.  Drafts can cause the Ear Candle to excrete more wax. The ear candle residue is a powdery yellow where as the ear wax is usually in lumps and dark brown in colour but this varies from individual to individual.

How many candles are used during the process?

Two Ear Candles are normally used for each ear.  A third is sometimes used at the request of the client if their condition has been there for a year or more.

How long does the process take?

Each Ear Candle burns for about 10 mins depending on the length and circumference.  A session will typically take about 40 mins to an hour.  The Ear Candling can be stopped at any time for any reason at the request of the client.

What happens if the wax drips into my ears?

Dripping wax may feel warm but the Hopi Ear Candles are made of 100% cotton fabric and pure beeswax so it does not drip like normal candle do.  Many people soak inflamed areas of their bodies in melted beeswax.
